”Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may
remember, involve me and I learn.”
Benjamin Franklin

I
was one of those fortunate kids in my early school years who didn’t have to
try super hard to have god grades. Paying attention in class and doing my
homework was usually sufficient to do well. Most times I wouldn’t even need
to study for exams, which usually annoyed my friends. Problem was, I didn’t
really develop good study habits which became painfully obvious in my
post-secondary studies. It was then that I envied the people who had had to
struggle through their early school years as they were much better prepared
to handle university than I was.
This
is a good parallel with my emotional growth. Because I buried my emotions for
years from my early teens onward, I also didn’t learn the best ways of
dealing with them. It’s not as fun trying to go through some of these lessons
later in life, when I am supposed to be more mature and capable.
I
know well enough that I learn better when I am involved and I hope, at least,
to be able to use this knowledge to better guide my children. I need to make
those extra efforts to help true learning take place and hopefully give them
a better start in life.

Affirmation
The struggles
of my youth often set the stage for my adult years and the lessons I missed
are harder, but not impossible, to learn when I am older.

These thoughts are part of my personal journal - reflections of where I am and have been in my recovery, but also where I want to be. My words come from my heart, and moments of clarity when I am best connected with my Higher Power. May God grant you serenity in reviewing my humble beginnings and my continuing path of recovery.
Book Sales
My first print run of 100 copies sold out, but I have had a second printing of an additional 250 copies done this year. So more are available, now at a cost of $20 CAD. My second book, Twelve Steps for Everyday Living, is now available for purchase for $15 CAD. It is my attempt, based on my experience and those who've been a part of my recovery journey, to transform the 12 Steps into a tool for anyone to use to navigate the challenges and trials of life.

Review it? Do you have a copy and enjoy what you have read? Can you help me promote it by leaving a good review at Goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21939460-lean-on-me)? Thanks for your support.
In other news, after a long debate and some peer pressure, I have started a second blog, along the same vein as Lean on Me, but in my second language. You can check it out here - Tomber dans l'appui.
